Who we are recruiting
Experienced CDL-A owner-operators running over-the-road refrigerated freight. You operate your own tractor. APL Cargo is the carrier — we are not a freight broker, and this is not a load board.
What you need to qualify
- A valid Class A CDL
- One year of verifiable CDL-A driving experience
- Your own truck or tractor — you must own or provide the power unit
If you meet all three, you are eligible to start an application today. Safety, driving-record and screening checks are completed as part of the application process.
How to apply
- Request information. Complete the short form on our driver recruiting site.
- Complete the driver application. Sent to you after step 1. It takes about 10–15 minutes.
- Speak with a recruiter. An APL Cargo talent specialist calls you at the number you provide to go through the current program terms.
What we have not published yet
We would rather tell you what we cannot yet confirm than publish a number you might plan your business around.
The following are not published on this page and are being certified against the current owner-operator agreement: weekly or per-mile earnings, the percentage split, the fee and deduction schedule, average load length, weekly miles, trailer arrangements, and freight availability by lane.
Compensation, miles, load availability and operating results vary. Request the current written owner-operator program terms before making a decision.

Questions about the program
Do I need my own truck?
Yes. You must own or provide your own tractor.
Do I need my own trailer?
Trailer arrangements are part of the current written program terms. Ask your recruiter in step 3 — we are not publishing a trailer claim we have not certified.
How much experience do I need?
One year of verifiable CDL-A experience.
Is this employment or contracting?
Owner-operators are independent contractors, not APL Cargo employees. If you are looking for a company-driver position instead, see all APL Cargo driver openings.
What will I earn?
We have not published an earnings figure here because it has not been certified. Your recruiter will go through the current terms with you in step 3.
